Profile
Dr. Zhenfeng Zhang received his Ph.D. at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and postdoc training at Heidelberg University in Germany. He started his lab at the Southern University of Science and Technology in 2022. The research in his lab focuses on hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis D virus (HDV), innate immunity, and antiviral treatment strategies. He is also interested in emerging viruses, personalized antiviral immunity, and precision antiviral therapy. Dr. Zhang has led and participated in many projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the German Research Foundation (DFG), etc. Dr. Zhang has published >30 peer-reviewed manuscripts in high-quality journals, including the Journal of Hepatology, Journal of Immunology, Viruses, etc. His research has been selected for oral presentations and awarded by the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), the International HBV Meeting, etc. Dr. Zhang serves as a guest editor for Viruses, a peer reviewer for the Journal of Hepatology, Antiviral research, Viruses, Liver International, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, etc.

2. Novel therapeutic strategies for HBV and HDV (nucleic acid antivirals, novel therapeutic vaccines, liver-targeting therapies, etc.)
