Personal Profile

Feng Zijian is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Public Health and Emergency Management of Southern University of Science and Technology. He is a member of the Medical Emergency Expert Committee of the National Health Commission and the head of the Epidemiology Group, as well as the head of the Technical Working Group of the National Immunization Program Expert Advisory Committee. He is also the vice president of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association and the deputy director of the Epidemiology Branch, the vice president of the Public Health Physician Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, a member of the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB), the chief editor of the Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine, and the deputy chief editor of China CDC Weekly and the Chinese Journal of Epidemiology. 

He served as a researcher at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, deputy director of the National Immunization Program Center, director of the Office of Disease Control and Emergency Response, director of the National Center for Health Emergency Response, and deputy director of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention. He participated in the investigation, assessment, and technical support for emergency management decision-making of a series of major infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and industrial accidents, as well as the formulation of important infectious disease monitoring and control policies and national immunization program policies. He has published over 280 papers in academic journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Journal of Infectious Disease, Emerging Infectious Disease, Health Affairs, Epidemiology, Chinese Journal of Epidemiology, and Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine, and has edited (translated) many professional books. He has also supervised 50 master's and doctoral students.

He enjoys the special government allowance for experts of the State Council, and has been awarded the title of Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Expert with Distinguished Contributions by the former National Health and Family Planning Commission, as well as the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Development Contribution Award by the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. He has won the Special Prize for National Scientific and Technological Progress and multiple science and technology awards from the Chinese Medical Association and the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. In September 2020, he was honored with the title of Advanced Individual in the National Campaign Against COVID-19 by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council and the Central Military Commission.
